Lamine Yamal Brings Homework to Keep Teachers Happy While Representing Spain
While most 16-year-olds are looking forward to summer vacation, Barcelona’s rising star Lamine Yamal is preparing for a very different kind of summer—he’ll be representing Spain at the Euro 2024 tournament in Germany. And remarkably, the young winger has admitted he’s even bringing his schoolwork along to keep his teachers happy during the prestigious event.
“I’ve brought my homework because I’m in the 4th year of ESO (the last year of compulsory school study), I have classes on the web, and I’m doing well; I hope the teacher doesn’t search me.”
In an interview with Spanish publication AS, Yamal said.
Breakout Season for Teenage Talent
Yamal’s inclusion in Spain’s Euro 2024 squad caps off a dream breakout season for the 16-year-old. He became Barcelona‘s youngest first-team player in over a century when he made his debut in April 2023, at just 15 years old. Since then, he has racked up 51 appearances and scored seven goals for the Spanish giants.
“I was watching the European Championship lying on the sofa with my mother. We’re not here for a stroll, but to make history,”
Yamal told AS about his Euro 2024 call-up.
Balancing Study and Success
At just 5’10” tall, the diminutive winger has shown remarkable maturity in balancing his studies with his rapid rise to soccer stardom.
“I have classes on the web, and I’m doing well,”
He explained about keeping up with his school commitments.
Yamal and Spain open their Euro 2024 campaign against Croatia on June 15th, with group games to follow against Italy and Albania. The teenage phenom, who turns 17 in July, will be hoping to play a part as Spain looks to add to their three European championship titles.
Whichever path Yamal’s blossoming career takes, one thing is certain: he’ll be doing his homework along the way. His commitment to academics while conquering the soccer world is an inspirational tale of the student-athlete ideal.
