GOAT Debate: Capello’s Controversial Claim – Ronaldo “Not a Genius” Like Messi in GOAT Battle of the Two 13-Time Ballon d’Or Kings

GOAT Debate: Capello's Controversial Claim - Ronaldo "Not a Genius" Like Messi in GOAT Battle of the Two 13-Time Ballon d'Or Kings

The age-old GOAT (greatest of all time) argument between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo has been addressed by legendary football manager Fabio Capello. Capello said that the response is “very simple.” Despite being a fantastic footballer, Ronaldo falls short of Messi’s level of genius.

Two of the most well-known soccer players in history are Ronaldo and Messi. With their amazing scoring and talent, Argentina’s Messi and Portugal’s Ronaldo have both rewrote record books. They have collectively taken home an incredible 13 Ballon d’Or trophies, which are given annually to the world’s finest players.

Capello, meanwhile, feels that the two enduring rivals differ significantly from one another. The playing style of Ronaldo and Messi are different.

“[Ronaldo] is a great player. He won titles, he won the Ballon d’Or, but as I said before, it’s not as great as how Messi has been. For me, if you talk to me about Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi, I will say Messi. Ronaldo is a great scorer, shoots, does everything, knows how to do everything, but he is not a genius. Very simple.”

Capello stated at the Laureus World Sports Awards.

Ronaldo, 39, and Messi, 36, who play for American team Inter Miami and Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, respectively, are still going strong. This season, Ronaldo has scored more than 40 goals, while Messi’s incredible abilities have not diminished.

This summer, the two legends will also compete for their countries in important competitions. Messi will represent Argentina in the Copa America, while Ronaldo will compete for Portugal in the European Championship. Maybe there are still records and awards to come for the two all-time greats.

However, Capello believes that even though Ronaldo’s accomplishments are remarkable in and of themselves, Messi is the “genius” who stands taller when it comes to becoming the actual GOAT.
